Að mynda verkin sín

Leiðbeiningar · Uppfært 16. október 2026

Myndin þarf ekki að vera fullkomin. Þegar þú hleður henni inn í Efstuhillu geturðu rétt hornin, klippt og snúið henni. Það sem skiptir máli við myndatökuna sjálfa er birta, sjónarhorn og að allt verkið sé með.

Fimm reglur sem duga langt

  1. Dagsbirta, ekki sól. Stilltu verkinu upp nálægt glugga, en ekki þannig að sólin skíni beint á það. Skýjaður dagur er bestur.
  2. Slökkt á flassi. Flass flettir út liti og áferð og speglast í gleri, lakki, silfri og gljáa.
  3. Beint framan á. Miðja símans á móti miðju verksins, síminn samsíða fletinum. Þá verða hlutföllin rétt.
  4. Allt með, smá loft í kring. Hafðu allt verkið, rammann og brúnirnar inni í myndinni. Þú klippir frekar af hér í kerfinu en bætir ekki við því sem vantar.
  5. Haltu símanum kyrrum. Styddu olnbogana við líkamann eða borð, andaðu rólega og ýttu mjúklega. Ef myndin er dimm skaltu frekar færa verkið nær glugga en að hækka birtuna í símanum.

Hvaða myndir á að taka?

Ein mynd dugar til að skrá verkið. Fyrir verðmat, sölu, tryggingar eða skipti er gott að eiga þessar fimm:

Eftir tegund

Photographing your items

Guide · Updated 16 October 2026

The photo doesn't need to be perfect. When you upload it to Topshelf you can straighten the corners, crop it and rotate it. What matters when you take the photo is the light, the angle and getting the whole item in the picture.

Five rules that go a long way

  1. Daylight, not sunshine. Set the item up near a window, but not where the sun shines directly on it. An overcast day is best.
  2. Flash off. Flash flattens colours and texture and reflects in glass, varnish, silver and glaze.
  3. Straight on. The centre of the phone opposite the centre of the item, with the phone parallel to the surface. That keeps the proportions right.
  4. Everything in, with a little space around it. Keep the whole item, the frame and the edges in the picture. You can always crop here afterwards, but you can't add what's missing.
  5. Hold the phone steady. Brace your elbows against your body or a table, breathe calmly and press gently. If the photo is dark, move the item closer to a window rather than turning up the brightness on your phone.

Which photos should you take?

One photo is enough to register an item. For a valuation, a sale, insurance or a division, it's good to have these five:

By type

Paintings and framed works

Drawings, prints, maps and photographs

Books and manuscripts

Wine and spirits

Watches and jewellery

Sculpture, ceramics, silver, furniture and objects

Coins and stamps

Glass and reflections

Reflections in glass are the most common problem with framed works. What you see reflected is the photographer, the window and the lights in the room, so the answer is to change what is in front of the glass, not the work itself.

Google PhotoScan is a free app for iPhone and Android, designed for photographing prints and normal-sized framed pictures. It has you take several shots from slightly different angles, combines them and removes the glare, finds the edges and straightens the picture. The image is saved to your phone's photo library and you then upload it here. The resolution is lower than in a normal photo, so it is less suited to large paintings that need to be seen in detail. Fixing the photo in Topshelf

When you choose a photo while adding an item, a window opens with two steps:

  1. Fix perspective. Drag the four corners to the corners of the item or the frame. A magnifier appears by your finger so you can see the edge precisely. The photo is then straightened as if it had been taken straight on. If the photo is already straight, just press Next.
  2. Crop. Choose an aspect ratio or leave it free, drag the photo within the frame, resize the frame at its corners, zoom in and straighten it slightly if it is tilted. Rotate 90° if your phone took it sideways.

The original photo on your phone doesn't change. You can always choose it again and start over with the Edit photo button.

Would you rather have it done for you?

For valuable items, large paintings and whole collections, it often pays to use a photographer who is experienced with artworks and objects. Topshelf can recommend one. Get in touch with us.
